BashNeft reference, page 1 BashNeft reference, page 2 Software tools developed by COMTECO Ltd. (leading developer M.Gutstein) have been used in BashNeft company since 1994. Since then an original data model has been created on the base of data manipulation system. This data model includes diverse information about wells and geological objects of BashNeft oilfields.
      Developed data entry means allows us to use software package CONTACT as a work base functioning at following BashNeft enterprises and departments: nine Oil &Gas Production Administrations (geology & development department), three thematic groups of exploration geology (drilling department), research & design institute (development department). In the future the package will be installed at oilfield sites, drilling departments, research & design institute departments, and BashNeft headquarter departments. In addition, the complex is used by enterprises of Public Joint-Stock Company BashNefteGeofizika, which carries out geophysical studies at BashNeft oilfields.

The package is used first of all to generate integrated databank and standardize primary data (oil recovery and water injection accounting, geophysical data, etc.). As data amounts grow, computer techniques evolve on the base of graphic interface module (VISCOM) and plotting module (GRAFIK) enabling geological and technical divisions of BashNeft enterprises to solve numerous tasks (development analysis and forecast, hydrocarbonate resources accounting, rig maintenance efficiency estimate, etc.)
      Creation and support of digital geologic-technological models of BashNeft oilfields based on accumulated data are one of most important development directions. In addition, the complex is evolving as information reference system to serve numerous queries that arise during daily activity of BashNeft enterprises.

By the current date the complex has been installed at 47 work places. 1463 wells have had "Well Cases", well exploitation parameters have been input for 9765 wells.

In the mid 1980s exploration geophysical groups affiliated to ZapadNefteGeofizika corporation (the latter has joined corporation BelorusNeft) were equipped with digital registrators GEOFIT that was controlled by the software COMTECO Ltd. supplied. Technologies developed by COMTECO Ltd. on the base of GEOFIT hardware allowed rapid transition to digital recording, improving labour conditions for operators who fulfilled well exploration in Belorussia, Ukraine, Kaliningrad region, and Western Siberia. In the late 1980s all ZapadNefteGeofizika's geophysical expeditions were equipped with KOTRI software complexes for BT-20 microcomputers. Package KOTRI developed by COMTECO Ltd. permitted customers to transfer wells exploration procedures from expensive powerful mainframes to compact cheap computers that may be directly used by organizations carrying out wells explorations. Usage of technology developed by COMTECO Ltd. on the KOTRI complex base enabled transition to new qualitative level of wells exploration interpretation and increased labour productivity of geophysicists.
       Since 1992 production departments of BelorusNeft corporation have been using VISCOM software package developed by COMTECO Ltd. Territorial databank GOMEL has been constructed on the base of VISCOM package with participation of COMTECO's specialists. By the date databank GOMEL holds information about more than 2000 wells drilled on territory that is under BelorusNeft coverage. VISCOM package allows customers to collect, store, process, and display diverse information obtained during search, exploration, and exploitation of oilfields. VISCOM's openness provides continuous extension of specifications of data types stored in the databank, easy build-up of new processing means, maintenance of large diverse cartographic database, preparation of output graphic documents matching the industrial and world standards. BelorusNeft corporation also has at its disposal geoscientific data processing systems developed by leading Western firms. Practical usage of these means enables one to conclude that COMTECO's software products meet the world level, employs most advanced techniques of geoscientific and oil production data processing while running, in distinction from similar Western systems, on the relatively cheap personal computers rather than expensive workstations. Particular modules in the VISCOM framework provide special processing systems with access to GOMEL databank. They also enable the VISCOM package to be involved in sophisticated technological procedures to supply various activity stages of large oil corporation with information service.
      The corporation managers plan further purchasing and use of COMTECO's products, in particular, specialists of geology and exploration department take interest in WINDOWS version of the VISCOM package, network capabilities extension to turn GOMEL databank into one of general elements of corporate and, in the future, national hydrocarbonates databank.

BelNIPIneft reference Belorussian state research & design institute of oil & gas industry (BelNIPIneft) uses software tools developed by COMTECO Ltd. to solve following tasks: oilfield resources estimation, oilfield development monitoring, and wells' maintenance optimization. All these tasks are solved by means of integrated databank based on COMTECO's VISCOM package. Use of integrated databank allows operative accounting of information obtained at various stages of oilfield development. In distinction from many other similar products developed by leading Western firms VISCOM provides geophysical studies with access to not only other research procedures data of the involved well, but also to diverse information concerning all other wells and structures of the oilfield. VISCOM package has large toolkit for operative control and decision-making: data retrieval, plotting, various mapping modes. Possibility to extend database information types and software tools customization to particular information technologies enables rapid automation of many routine procedures of data search, processing, and display that were "manual" lately. Thus, modules provided by COMTECO have become base to create computer procedure for oil resources determination and oilfield development state mapping. These modules are also used to design unique, not having any analogs, database that provides oilfield development control by means of geophysical studies. According to 1997-98 contract between BelNIPIneft and COMTECO Ltd. new development has been initiated to implement service procedures supporting solution of many engineering tasks at the oilfield development stage. Use of interactive processing mode provided with VISCOM, as a part of integrated databank, will ensure more cost-effective and validated decision-making. In 1999-2002 cooperation with COMTECO Ltd. will continue to create integrated oilfield development monitoring system on the base of united databank, extended tools set for engineering tasks solving, use of network data processing capabilities.

This cooperation has generally resulted in substantial advance of up-to-date information technologies at our enterprise: from common spreadsheets to integrated databank VISCOM-GAZ comprising powerful tools for retrieval, processing, display, and analysis of geoscientific and production data.

With use of COMTECO’s software all necessary information has been imported from spreadsheets to databases. In addition, diverse analog geoscientific information (first of all, log data and reservoir parameters maps) has been digitized and loaded into the databases. Combination of structured set of heterogeneous data with means of their display and processing has become a prerequisite for their complex analysis and systematization.

By now comprehensive databank has been created. It stores geological and production data for more than 400 wells belonging to three gas fields.

Being used in production activity support mode, VISCOM-GAZ databank provides bilateral interface with EXCEL spreadsheets system. Therefore, specialists who get used to operating this system are able to master new technology very quickly. New software tools have significantly increased their labour productivity, since these means support complete technological procedure: data input, their automatic readjustment, calculations, and representation of results obtained. Involved technique is used to account technological behaviour of well and monthly exploitation report.

Gas pressure mapping, which is a compulsory stage of technological procedure, is an example of practical use of VISCOM-GAZ databank. Graphic demonstration of this most important parameter greatly facilitates spatial information analysis and is instrumental in validated decision-making.

Perfection of diverse and heterogeneous information used in gas field development technological process is a necessary precondition for creation of reservoirs geological-production model. In the future this will discover new possibilities to forecast and optimize gas fields development. It also will allow various specialists to take well-grounded strategic and tactical decisions.

We plan further collaboration with COMTECO Ltd. In prospect VISCOM-GAZ databank is to become a multipurpose information analytical system at our enterprise.

YamalGeofizika reference Software package CTC-VISCOM is a fundamental product. It is an advance in technology of databases development and usage. Its distinctive feature is an economical use of computer resources in conjunction with rapid data access.
      Common drawback of majority of known (primarily, Western) databases is a poor adaptability to data volatility conditions that are characteristic of oil and gas industry. Software package CTC-VISCOM solves the problem quite efficiently due to innovative technique of data organization.
      Another important benefit of CTC-VISCOM package is an advanced data export-import subsystem providing data compatibility with a majority of known software tools used in the industry.
      As far as we know, the product is now in use at oil and gas enterprises of Western Siberia. It is successfully employed there to solve tasks concerning data storage and processing.
      COMTECO's package is of great importance both from scientific and application viewpoints. Undoubtedly, it has to be in wide use. And not only in oil and gas industry. Only inadequate knowledge of potential customers about the product inhibits its common employment.
